The Shell game Continues!

Cards to be dealt @ 5:00 sharp was the time set by the host of the “Turtle Shell Saloon” and I’ll be darned, if that didn’t  motivate the players enough into arriving on time, or there about. It was down to the wire but if we didn’t get the cards in the air on time… it was close. Good job players!

Twelve players arrived to take a shot at S.B.P.T. glory, some were trying to keep the streak alive, and some were just trying to break out of a major S.B.P.T. slump, while one was altogether new to the S.B.P.T.! After sitting down in comfort and elbow room to begin our journey, there was a heap of early action coming from both tables, and with Meaty nowhere to be found, Slick and Sponge had to make up for  the loss of tournament prize money by re-buying 50,000 each.

The Turtle Shell Saloon is always a welcome place to play because unlike many of our Casinos (Little Hill especially) there is some room to walk in between tables, and they always serve our players nice home cooked meals… this month was no exception!

When the dinner bell rang, a nice meal of pulled pork tacos with rice and beans awaited the players. Salad and other sides were also there to fill our bellies. And celebratory cigars for the birth of a future S.B.P.T. player were also passed out and smoked (outside of course) by those who partake in such behavior! With full stomachs and nicotine stained fingers, it was once again time to take our seats for the business at hand… winning a tournament!

Our newest S.B.P.T player was not long for this tournament and found herself out quickly after the break, but by all accounts, had a good time and plans on attending other S.B.P.T. events. Not long after that, Slick found himself in the same position when his monster hand wasn’t so scary after all, and by all accounts Slick is disgusted with poker and plans never to play this piece of crap game again!

Riverisa was up the creek without her paddle as her draws didn’t hit and the surprise of the night for Big Slicks Sports Book was Marshal going out fourth. BSSB had given Marshal the 3rd best chance to win, and after reviewing the picks versus actual tournament results, we find that BSSB picked the winner correctly, Popeye was picked to have the second best chance and he scored his fourth 3rd place finish, El Guapo was picked 4th, which was the case, Sponge 5th… true, and Zug 6th. You can pat me on the back when you see me!

Well that pretty much laid out the results, but didn’t touch at all on the amazing finish or who were the two players who were heads up! It was Cha Cha and Turtle heads up for the title. Cha Cha poised to get his first S.B.P.T victory and Turtle on the brink of a second back-to-back title!

The battle lasted for well over two hours, and six blind levels. Back and forth the chip went and not to take away from Turtles game, but the turn and river had been good to him all night and heads up was no different. An example:  all the money was in by both players after the flop(Cha Cha with the chip lead) which was 2, 3, 4, rainbow, (I think) and Turtle turns over A/4 or A/3 or something for a pair with a straight draw, when Cha Cha shows that he flopped a straight and with A/5, leaving just 3 outs for Turtle and his tournament hopes. First cards dealt… 5 on the turn splitting the pot and giving Turtle another chance to make good.

Back and forth for and back and forth the money went giving dominating chip stacks to both players, but ultimately title experience wins out and Turtle grabs his fifth Tournament victory, his second back-to-back,  and he becomes the quickest to five titles. I’d say it was a pretty good night for the shelled one. He is setting records for players to strive towards!

Congratulations! I’ll be looking forward to next month.
