The mood at Gameras was upbeat, as we welcomed new and old players to finally
get back to the two table tourneys we are used to. Sniper came out of hiding,
Popeye made his
’09 debut, and we welcomed the spitting image of Tony as MacTomorrow & his
Queen-Ace Joined the fray.
The first hour had its customary fireworks,
as “E” made Burmese Poker a phrase to be remembered. The style has a Poker-Fu
feel, but its complete randomness makes it a hybrid style that frustrates
opponents to no end.
She coined a
new saying when she “Robbed” Rob of a stack of chips. The break brought a few
re-buys and lots of pizza, and when everyone had enough to eat, we went back to
the mayhem and searched for a champion.
We lost players quickly as “E” called
everyone & everything, squeezing the Sponge dry, then sending El Guapo to the
couch for a loooong siesta. The newcomers were first and fourth out, Popeye
forgot his spinach and went back to Olive Oil for some comforting.
Sniper came up empty, and MacTonight failed to go back to back. The essence of
Burmese Poker was seen when “E” called Sandy’s all in, and Sandy just grabbed
her belongings and headed for the door as “E”s flopped king sealed her fate.
The pivotal
hand of the night came when Slick, who had been doing nothing all evening,
tripled up to become more than healthy and an instant threat. He unplugged the
Saw when he read her correctly and got all in with pocket 10’s against her
pocket 5’s to become the dominant stack and new favorite. Gameras night ended
next as did the Marshals, leaving Slick up against a short-stacked “E” for all
the marbles. It ended quickly, and Slick was again left to host the next
tourney, leaving us all feeling like Aprils Fools…
