Big Slick Makes A Monster Comeback
The inaugural tourney at the Lilly Pad proved to be quite an event. The action early on almost matched the heat at the Pad. Players barely had a chance to square up their game faces before the call of “ALL-IN” rang out. The third hand of the game got things going when a flop of A-7-2 gave Sponge 2 pair (A-7’s) and Slick trip 2’s. The “all-in” went out and was answered, leaving Slick in the driver’s seat. The turn came up A, sending Slick careening off the road, while Sponge sailed safely away in his boat.
Slick was short stacked down to 90k, but managed to mount a comeback to get into the mix. The Buzzsaw forgot to put her blade in, and went “awe-in” with a stone bluff straight-draw. Slick’s two pair held up, and the tables were turned again. The Buzzsaw never got going, and soon gave up her chips and headhunter award to Sixth man, in a battle of all-in short-stacks.
Sandy had it tough in the early stages and after a few beats looked to be almost out of the game. She boldly threw her cards in the middle and doubled up not once, but twice against Ian, who couldn’t deliver the killing blow. After surviving those two early deathblows, Sandy had a much easier time of it.
With a nice switching of gears, she took control of the table, and dictated the pots and action while building her horde. After what seemed an eternity, we finally got down to the final table, with Wes, Steve, Paul, Jeremy, Amy and Jim making their run at the title.
The first big hand proved to be a monster, as Wes went in with pocket 9’s and Paul called with A-Q suited. Jeremy made it a three way pot, calling with Big Slick suited. The flop produced an ace, leaving Wes reeling, and a pair of 8’s gave hope to Paul for a chop-pot. Jeremy’s king held up, leaving four left to battle. After a few hands of chip trading, Steve bowed out in 4th, gaining valuable points to pad his overall lead.
Jeremy went all-in with 6’s against Jim’s 7’s, and fell in 3rd (congrats). As the tension mounted, Amy and Jim killed it by going all-in on the first hand heads-up! Jim played his J-9 of diamonds against Amy’s J-6 of clubs. The flop came J-9-something, all but assuring victory for Jim. The turn showed a J to give Jim the boat, but it left Amy a shot at a backdoor 9 to chop it down. The 9 didn’t show, and Amy gladly took second and left the hosting duties to the fine staff of the Little Hill Casino & Daycare Center. It was a great game overall with lots of action, and hopefully lots of fun as we returned to almost full strength. Good luck next month to all, as we return to the Little Hill (you know where it is by now).
