Dateline Harbor City…Total Annihilation at Casa De Tarjetas!
With one seat left to be filled, we got underway at the second hosting by El
Guapo at Casa De Tarjetas in the 2008 tour, and it wasn’t long before that seat
was filled and we had a full tournament of RSVP’ed players. Turtle was the last
to find his seat and by the close of the 8th tournament of 2008,
Turtle would be the last to have a seat!
Casa De Tarjetas had us all well fed and our thirsts well quenched with a
delivery of Quizno’s Subs and an assortment of beverages on ice. And big ups to
El Guapo and the Saw for hosting a fine and fun tournament with the burden of
time constraints due to an unexpected scheduling conflict from a fantasy
football draft earlier in the day. I was looking forward to the feel of a
Mexican Cantina, but you do what you can when time gets short.
Now to the action! Conservative play was the model for both tables early on as only a few All-in’s were called, mostly by the short table… table #2. Surprisingly Meaty wasn’t among the aggressive players to need a complete re-buy. Popeye was the leader this month in “out of pocket” donations to our prize pool! It wasn’t the first hour that set this tournament apart from any other; it was what happened after the “sandwiches” (a reference to the Sahara, Las Vegas for those who were there)!
One by one player’s fell to the slowest among us… the Turtle! If he was in a
hand in which he called a player’s “All-in”, he would have either flopped the
nuts, i.e. Cha Cha, or would come from way behind, i.e. Sandy Cheeks, to put
another player on the rail. All the while increasing his stack to gargantuan
proportions so as players got short, he could gamble with a much lesser hand and
many times, push them out of hands by just betting out. Turtle has certainly
become a much more aggressive player, and it is paying off ten-fold.

Turtle seems to like to comment on his player profile assessment of “Loose” almost as a fuel for fire burning deep inside of him which, until recently, I would consider accurate, but now needs a slight modification… “Loose Aggressive”. He has certainly learned that betting has a payoff, even if you get caught with junk a time or two. I get the feeling that he views “Loose” as a derogatory term, but he should know that that type of player is probably one of the toughest to play against, and “Loose Aggressive” even tougher.
One by one we
lost players, and one by one, Turtle would earn another kill, and along the way,
would earn even yet another headhunter award for his resume, and then of course,
a tournament victory . The only aside to the whole night was that Sponge had
called his shot and even after facing a race situation and losing to Marshal
three handed, he still survived long enough to get his chips in the center heads
up with the best hand… A/Q against J/10 (swing and a miss), only to become
Turtles 8th victim for the night, and secure for Turtle, a record 8
kills in one tournament and yet another title. I don’t know for sure if that is
a record but damn it… its close if not.
Turtle is having a tremendous year, scoring his third win for the 2008 tour, and racking up an unbelievable 22 kills thus far. Just to give a perspective, that’s 10 more than the next guy. He has a 3.73 average finish position, second only to Popeye, and he’s leading in total pay, having won over $1000 so far and we have 4 tournaments left in the year!
Congratulations on probably the most dominant victory in SBPT history, dethroning M.N.I. Earl for that title, and congrats on your 6th trip home with the trophy!
