December
Reign!!!
There was a lot riding on this last tourney of the year, and in the end… NOTHING changed! We had the 3-way battle for the tour championship, and the streak of Mr. December on the line. T
he players ambled in to the Casa for an early start, and the 11th hour addition of Meaty was most welcome, giving us a field of ten to battle it out. The first hour had a few fireworks, and Meaty had his usual re-buy to secure his title of most re-buys for the year! The break brought everyone to the 3’ burrito, making its anticipated return to the Casa.
After all had their fill of burrito, salad, and homemade Ghiradelli cookies, we sat in for the big finito. Essentially it boiled down to Kevin having to go out in the first five, then El Guapo and Turtle having to improve to claim year-end victory. Kevin did his part and bowed out early, then El G doused the flames coming from Gamera’s shell to position himself for victory…
That’s when the tour championship may have been decided. El Guapo just called with aces in middle position, and when the flop came 7-8-9, he made his move and pushed all-in. Right move, wrong time… Sponge’s 5-6 gave him the low straight, and he reluctantly called, figuring to see the “best hand in poker” beat him. That created a huge swing as Sponge was now armed and dangerous, and El Guapo was left clamoring for chips. He fought his way back, doubling up through Slick, and it came to the moment of truth.
El Guapo was in 5th, and needed only to make the money to claim his first title. Short stacked and holding pocket 3’s, he pushed, and Slick called with A-10. When a 10 hit, it ended his dreams for the second time, again just 1 point short of victory. Sandy proceeded to exit on the very next hand, and after much disgust and disinterest, the two left standing were Cha Cha and Slick. They battled for quite some time until Slick finally wore him out, and retained his claim to the title of Mr. December.
Congrats to Popeye for a well played year, and congrats to Slick for doing the near impossible!
See you all next year at the grand opening of the "Out Skirts".
