Fartman escapes the Assassins crosshairs to capture the Compton Classic!!

40’s & flannels & rap, OH MY!!! The Compton Classic turned out to be just that…CLASSIC. “ I live in Compton” was something Marco barely remembers saying, but after Saturdays game, he’ll forever be linked to the CPT. In what can only be found in the S.B.P.T. Thomas Guide, we found ourselves right in the heart of Compton west, where fried chicken and poker are king.
It was impromptu, but some of us managed our best ghetto look, and added to the fabulous atmosphere created at the Proffits Palace. The only things missing were activator and plastic couch covers. After checking on who got arrested or shot, we all settled down for the second game of the year. There seemed to be pretty spirited play early on, with everyone jockeying for the early chip lead.

At the Lifetime table, Marco and El Guapo were the only swords at a table full of sheaths. The reigning champ took an early lead, keeping his momentum from the last game. The rest of us took turns trading chips and stacks and playing musical chairs, occasionally losing someone along the way.
At the Spike table, Sandy Cheeks was the lone woman and wasted no time in letting everyone know who she was. Her early chip lead carried her to the final table, and the rest of the table was left to play survivor behind her. The MC’s poker-fu again failed to gain a submission, and he had the honor of being booked first in the Compton Jail loser’s lounge.

The final table featured lots of all-ins, and we quickly got to see why the Assassin got her name. After she sniped the reigning champ, getting his chips and headhunter award, she turned on the Buzzsaw and sliced up everyone that got in her way. The final pairing had Fartman and his never ending 40’s, against the sharp blades of the Buzzsaw.
It didn’t take long for them to find themselves all-in, and it appeared we were heading back to the Lilly Pad, with the Saw holding A-Q, and Fart holding A-9. The flop came ?-Q-9, keeping both players in, but leaving Fartman few outs. The turn helped neither player, and with the Saw ready for her final cut, Fartman pulled a Dudley Do Right, and unplugged her with inches to spare. His miracle 9 on the river gave him the chip lead and the momentum, both of which he used to seal the victory.

This proved to be quite an event, with MANY thanks going to Marco, J-Ro and the Proffits for creating a great place to play, and a better place to lose!! See ya next month, as we return to the safe, cozy confines of Torrance.

Many thanks to Sponge and Sandy for their tireless effort of building and maintaining the South Bay Poker Tour website. It was the website that really brought this idea together and gave the players a way to participate outside the poker room. Sponge and Sandy decided to hand over the reigns because maintaining this site while running their own business along with coaching their children's baseball teams has made time a commodity and something had to go. I guess choosing their family and livelihood is more important. I only hope that I will be able to keep up what they started.
If anyone has ideas about how to improve upon what I've done, feel free to help. I want this to be a group effort and I hope that is what it will be. One of the first group ideas that I would like help with, is the S.B.P.T. Cookbook! Please email me any recipes that you have brought to an S.B.P.T. event or are planning to bring. The first one up will most likely be "Ghetto Cupcakes". Send me what you have and lets do this!
Thanks again to the Paris family for the efforts.
