The SAW cuts through a V.I.P. field & captures the January title!!

The 2007 season kicked off with quite a “BANG” at the Little Hill Casino. The poppers were ready, the food was hot, and the action was explosive, as we welcomed in a new year with a V.I.P. field in a final table event. Our table featured the top two from ’05, and the top three from ’06 including both champs.

After presenting the trophies to last season’s top three (we missed you Brawny!), our tightly packed table of ten got right to work, and made it clear that this year it will cost you to see cards. The first hour saw lots of chips exchanging hands, as stacks grew and shrank with each deal. The Sponge took a couple to the soft side, and was forced to rebuy before the break.

After the welcome and delicious offerings from Aloha Loft were enjoyed during the break, we got back to the carnage. Sponge couldn’t recover from his early wringing out, and was first out. That was followed by another surprise, as Scooter made an early exit soon after. After lasting longer than most expected without her young tutor, Dallas was next to fall. Sandy and the Turtle followed, and then were joined by Meaty, leaving the final four to battle for the crown. Slick was short stacked, and feeling vulnerable, but doubled up through the Dry Cleaner to get back into contention.  A poker-fu flashback occurred when the Assassin proudly exclaimed her cards were “the same color”.  El Guapo was foiled once again by Slick, when his call with pocket Jacks were trounced by the Snakes pocket Kings. The Dry Cleaner was looking to claim the Headhunter award until Slick hit the jackpot with trip 7’s to end his evening.

That left the Saw, blade spinning at full speed, against Slick and his Goliath-like heads up record, for the title. The chips were almost even as play began, and the Saw would not be denied. After a few hands of small chip changing, we finally got the hands both wanted. Slick pushed all-in with pocket 6’s, and the Saw pondered her position before changing into the Assassin and squaring her sights for the showdown. Her claim of “you know what, I’ve been getting lucky all night” spelled Slicks demise, as she turned over K-Q offsuit and waited for the only three cards she would need. The flop brought a King, and Slick couldn’t catch the set as he fell to the might of the frogs. It was a well played game by all, and expect the Sponge to come back with a vengeance in his next appearance. Congrats to the Saw for her second title!

See you all at the Lilly Pad…
