Sandy Cheeks Will Hold The Trophy For Weeks

With her first win since the South Bay Poker Tour’s conception, Sandy becomes the first female to capture the title of “S.B.P.T. Tournament Champion”. Not only did she gain the prestige of “trophy holder” she also gained significant ground in the point standings by eliminating her hubby (who was the current “trophy holder” and points leader) from the tournament with only 4 points. With solid play throughout and the help of a runner-runner of bullets she tasted victory and ended Senior’ Pablo’s trophy aspirations for the month and kept the trophy at Casino De’ Paris for another month. Way to go Sandy!
Props to the big man El Guapo, for not getting pushed around! When M.C. set $800,000 on the table as a stone cold bluff and called “I raise”, Pablo licked his chops and sent his money “Awe In”. M.C. had to call another $350,000 or so to stay in the hand but realizing that he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, he chose to fold. The issue of pot commitment apparently wasn’t a concern to M.C. so we never got to see the cards that he was willing to bluff with. A second place finish for the big man and his first S.B.P.T. 2nd place chip to show proudly!
With just three left at the final table, it was a 2-1 shot that a female would capture victory. J-Ro, Sandy and El Guapo all had huge chip stacks and it looked as if we were in for a long night. Unfortunately for Chilidog, her two pair didn’t hold up to Sandy’s flush draw, and Sandy edged out Chili with a spade on fourth street. So Congrats to J-Ro for snapping her streak of bad cards, capturing a 3rd place chip and the money that goes with it. A big 14 points towards year-end doesn’t hurt either.
The Jerminator snuck in to capture 4th place claiming 13 points towards the year-end total, a 4th place chip and his money back as well. He did very well to hold on that long. When it was down to four, he was the big time short stack. It was only a matter of time. A fine finish for sure.
We had two new players welcomed into the South Bay Poker Tour and two players that until now had not made an appearance this year. So the S.B.P.T. is busting at the seams, but everyone is enjoying himself or herself and that’s the goal. So let us welcome to the S.B.P.T. Bruce (Red Baron), and J.C. who has yet to be nicknamed. If anyone has an idea, feel free to use “poker talk” to express it. And let’s welcome back Kirker and “5-O” (Cop Johnny) to the S.B.P.T. The two of which had each played in one tournament back in 2004. Unfortunately none of the new players made a final table appearance.
A few notable hands:
1. For the first time in this poker tour’s existence, we had 4 of a kind on the board. It came down to J.C.’s ace to out kick “5-O’s” king!
2. Cop John’s four of a kind 3’s sunk Kirker’s boat of 5’s over 3’s
3. “The Assassin” sent Fishy swimming back to shore by catching an ace on the river to give “Awe In” the bigger boat of A’s over 2’s to Fishy’s 10’s over A’s
4. Of course the most notable hand would be when Sandy’s A-J took Spongie from competition when he showed A-10. Also giving Sandy her first “Headhunter Award”… Ring! Ring! Schools in session!
5. And of course, I guess it would be remiss if we didn’t mention Brawny’s hand of Four Aces that never saw a show down. She was bummed when everyone folded so she showed us why we all made the correct lay down.
So congratulations to Sandy on her first victory and to all of you who finished in the prize pool. And thanks to everyone for the great poker. And finally, Thanks to Casino De’ Paris for hosting a fine tournament. Many exciting tournaments are yet to come! We at the South Bay Poker Tour hope to see you next month! Remember to watch out for those screen doors!
And my favorite quote of the tour thus far by M.C. Ronnie while bluffing:
“I’ve got the 7, now give me the off-suit!
Viva

If you've ever read poker talk you would understand
