SPONGEZILLA INVADES MONSTRA CITY!!!
CAPTURES 6TH S.B.P.T. TITLE.
All
bow before the mollusk!! Only one person sensed that the strange, squishy
rumblings under the hills of Harbor Pines was indeed the return of Spongezilla,
awakening
from his hibernation to wreak havoc upon his own home, and lay waste to an
impressive 14 player field at the May Monstrosity. Snakes are often the first to
sense even the tiniest of vibrations in the earth’s crust, and so it was that
our own Snake labeled the disturbance Sponge’s return to victory in Slick’s
Picks. Our Snake may get a new name if he goes an impressive 3 for 3 next month,
as he is fast becoming Jimmy “The Greek”.

After all the players gathered at the newly adorned “Big Star Casino”, including
a most welcome cameo by both Brawny and Fartman (nice to see you both back), we
got down to business right away. On table 1, the first hand produced another
“all-in” with a call when Scooter and her set of queens sent Popeye reaching for
his can of spinach and his wallet when he misread his hand and produced a STILL
to date unsuccessful 4-card straight.
The
action on table 2 was just as heated, as Meaty was forced to re-buy early on,
and had no idea of what lay ahead just a few minutes later.
As the horn for the break sounded, everyone gathered around table 2 to watch as
Meaty pushed all-in (again) after the flop, only to be called by both Fartman
and… surprise, surprise…The Assassin! With the turn and river to go, the
tension was high. Fartman pushed the Assassin all in on the turn, and with one
shot (a 4th queen), the Assassin dropped Fartman and his full house,
and Meaty and his straight.

The spread at the
Big Star was first class. We had us sum sammich’s, fried ravioli’s, and Meaty’s
sweet & tangy balls. Everyone
got plenty to eat, and El Guapo gave a 2-minute run down on the origin of the
Transformers (robots in disguise). The real tourney started and it took awhile,
but we slowly started bleeding players until we had our Sweet 7 final table.
It’s pretty much a blur from there and when I bowed out for the night there were
still 4 standing. Scooter was the first to fall, and then Steve (new guy)
finally gave up his tourney ghost.
That
left the Dry Cleaner heads-up with the fabled Spongezilla, with 1st
place and the reign of MonstraCity on the line. Sponge soaked up chips until the
Dry Cleaner was left defenseless, and then he finished him off to claim his 6th
title and keep the trophy there, with only a minor background change required
for next month. Congrats to the Lord of the Mollusks, and we’ll see you all next
month, Same Sponge time, same Sponge casino!!!
