This member of the "Big Three" needs no bail-out!
As players arrived, the smell of sugared bacon and Buffalo dip filled the air (made especially for Meaty who was unfortunately unable to attend) and the excitement of the Tour Championship coming into focus. This month would basically determine who will have some hardware at years end!
What was quite possibly the last tournament at Little Hill turned out to be a good one as we all gathered around the monster sized table to play the S.B.P.T. EEE-O Eleven tournament. With only nine seats filled, and one of them by a familiar face from months past… Scooter was back, ready to drink and be merry while raking in some pots! Ultimately that is why we all show up!
With one full table, instead of two smaller ones, the action slows down and people have to be more cautious with stronger hands, and it showed as nobody was a real table bully during the first hour. Sponge did choose to walk on the wild side and go over the top with an open ended draw on a big bet by Slick, prompting El Guapo to call behind and forcing Slick to also call. As things would go, he hit it, tripling up but later blowing it all and ending his night early. El Guapo would split the remaining pot with Slick, and both players would have to re-buy shortly after.
When break time hit, it was all about the fried chicken! Little Hill also served Cold Decked Cranberry Salad, Macaroni salad, plenty of beer, whisky, water, and sodas, along with brownie bites for dessert. Hopefully everything a hungry poker-player needs to quench his thirst and hunger!
On to the real happenings… Marshal hit the rail very early but grabbed the deck of cards and graciously dealt for the remaining players. Slick wasn’t out five minutes after Marshal, and Sponge was also shortly behind, but the difference was in the whining… 2 out of three didn’t…J/K! Popeye, who could have really locked up the Tour Championship slipped a bit by going out next, and left the door open for El Guapo and Turtle slide in. That’s what they did, each making it to the final three and earning points along the way.
It looked as if Turtle would be hosting for the fourth time in a year at one point after having won the headhunter award again and having the big stack 3-ways, but El Guapo put a hurt on the Turtle’s stack and became the dominate force at the table. Sandy Cheeks would go on to take out Turtle and enter heads up play with El Guapo for the second time in their S.B.P.T. careers. El Guapo has been waiting since May of 2005 for this rematch!
Sandy Cheeks was relentless, raising and re-raising all-in time after time, until she was the chip leader but El Guapo just waited for a big hand and it paid off when her all-in was called and her hand was lost, leaving her with virtually nothing but a few chips and a chair. El Guapo went on to victory and became a member of the big three. Three tournament wins, and three in one year! Congratulations for that and for tightening up this year-end race. Some kind of miracle has to happen for 4th place Marshal to slip in and steal a year-end trophy from Popeye, El Guapo, or Turtle as he is 12 points away from the lowest of the three.
It should be an exciting finish to the 2008 Tour! Lets all do our best to be a part of next months exciting finally!
Special thanks goes out to Sponge's Ass for making a duel appearance!
