Flash Flood Warning!

(The drought is over)

Open for business was The OutSkirts Lounge and Gambling Hall (with its brand new (new to the OutSkirts) 10 game Bally video poker machine as well as its ultra cool Bally 809 from decades past) and not only was it open for business but it was also ready to celebrate the SBPT’s 5 year anniversary! As a little surprise for the SBPT VIP’s (especially the long-time VIP’s) the management at the OutSkirts had made a celebratory 5-year anniversary cake to mark the occasion.

Now that all the back patting is over, let’s talk about poker!

14 players were able to attend with a lot of scenarios to be played out. One notable absence was Turtle who was leading the tour in total points but was in third eliminating the drop-off tournaments. Turtle now is in sole possession of third both with and without the two drop-off tournaments but has Mac Tonight nipping on his heels. I never wish for anyone to miss a tournament but especially anyone in trophy contention.

The two tables were lively having Meaty back in a seat at table 1 and also with a new and revitalized El Guapo who must have shot up on some comic steroids before taking his seat on table 2. Having El Guapo in a good mood was a refreshing change from tournaments of the recent past. And that mood change was working well for the Big Man as he was stacking chips on top of chips on top of chips at his table and “popping” people right out of the tournament.  The big stack at table 1 was Marshal who was trying to break his own trend of good month/bad month and was well on his way to snapping it. Keep an eye on Marshal as he is fast becoming an aggressive player who has no issue trying to steal blinds and antes and he’s been building stacks early in tournaments by doing this. He also is alone in second place for the year in “Tour” points.

When the tables came together, everybody had about evened out in chips except one player… El Guapo! He was the dominate stack and if didn’t play another hand, he would coast easily into heads-up play. That is about what he did. He just waited until he knew he was good before he called a hand until he was heads-up. Enough about him, the real story was the other players at the final table. Slick who was going for three straight, Marshal in “Tour” championship contention along with Mac Tonight, and Sandy Cheeks, trying to break a two year drought of tournament wins.

Marshal couldn’t hang on and fizzled out in 6th place, while Mac Tonight made it past the bubble and got his buy-in back along with some decent points towards years-end. That left just three… old school SBPT, Sandy who was coming on strong with her patented all-in move, Slick who was hoping for a double up or two but wasn’t having much luck, and El Guapo who had a big stack, soon to be increased when Slick crapped out and was unable to get that elusive three straight.

That left a heads-up re-match between El Guapo and Sandy Cheeks going back to May 2005! El Guapo came in as the big stack, but between his somewhat conservative play, and Sandy Cheeks willingness to push all-in, and the blinds and ante way up there, it wasn’t long before Sandy was in the chip lead. To show how willing she is to push all-in, she pushed El Guapo out pre-flop with a 7/2 off just to take a buck from him in the process. The chips went back and forth with no big pot for a small while then when a Queen high board flopped giving El Guapo a middle pair and straight draw, he called when Sandy’s familiar all-in was stated. Sandy cheeks had the Queen and El Guapo couldn’t improve and like the previous match between these two Sandy came out on top.

Props to El Guapo for the comedy, and big ups to Sandy Cheeks for fantastic play and ending her drought of tournament wins!
