Slicks Picks!

Over the years there have been many ways that I have tried to forecast the results of our poker tournaments. Many times I was pretty close but ultimately it's impossible to be 100% correct and what fun would it be anyway to play the tournament if I knew for sure what the results were ahead of time?

This year I'm going with my gut. My gut will be influenced by stats and tournament results, but mostly it'll come down to what I feel. I'll also give a brief explanation of why I feel the way I do and why you're placement is as such.

The symbols you will see next to your name will indicate whether your stock in the S.B.P.T. poker world is rising, falling, or it's just holding steady  , based on your recent tournament results contrasted with your S.B.P.T. career (since 2007 and computer software) results!

March 2010

Sponge: 1st place

It may seem unlikely but I think he’s due for a win and what better time than at an historic tournament such as this. Stranger things can happen just as Cha Cha proved last month.

Marshal: 2nd place

I’m not sure, but I got the impression that he didn’t want the win last month and was more than happy with second. I guess when you battle for two hours heads up and get almost even in chips then call an all-in with J/10 off, it leaves me wondering. Nonetheless, I think he’ll do well.

Meaty: 3rd place

When he plays, he plays hard and fast. When he gets the cards, he can be very troublesome to play against. When he doesn’t, he sets records for the most buy ins!

El Guapo: 4th place

Well the last two months have also been historic for El G because first out twice in two months is unheard of. This month, I think he’ll be around the bubble but will most likely secure himself a placement chip.

Big Slick: 5th place

A fantastic streak came to an end last month, eight straight month with a finish placement no worse than third. Backdraft that! I hope it’s not a sign of things to come. This month is very crucial for the year-end lead.

Mac Tonight: 6th place

I think the glow has worn off a bit and players aren’t as hesitant to mix it up with the Big Mac. That is reducing his fold equity and making bigger swings in his stack.

Cha Cha: 7th place

He did it! Now he has to see what it’s like to host and play at the same time. It can be very distracting for some players. For me, I have so much else going on with running the tourney and such that it’s all part of it now.

Diego: 8th place

His SBPT career record doesn’t really give a good indication of how well he may do. He’s only played 4 tournaments but has a third place finish among them. Most of them, he’s been closer to the bottom half of the finishers but I think overall he’s a capable player.

Turtle: 9th place

He hasn’t had a double digit points win since June 2009. That’s not all his fault due to short player participation and some missed tourneys but he definitely performed better in the first half of 2009.

The Saw: 10th place

This is the month that we see some separation in our tour standings. Right now the Saw is tied for fourth overall with two other players. If she finishes as predicted, it could spell trouble for the year-end title.

  “E”: 11th place

This is a crazy stat also but, “The Vowel” aside from one tournament hasn’t earned more than two points in a tournament since June 2009. 2009 started off well for her and at one point she was on top but then she quickly faded. She needs some good results to get back in contention.
