"What Are The Odds?"
This Months Query:
What are the odds of chosen player winning both the "headhunter Award" and the Coveted Trophy in the same tournament?
We have typically been averaging 12 players for a while, but things are starting to pick up a bit as new players have been joining our dog and pony show, but I will graciously continue to use 12 players as an average. That being said, I have already set the odds for winning the headhunter award at 9 to 1 and if 12 players are entered into the tournament, it may look like this:
There will be two tables of six if 12 players attend, which means that six players may never get a shot at the Headhunter Award but when the tables combine for the final table, we can average that three players from each table made the final table, giving a possible nine players a shot at the award (eight players plus the head that is being hunted if the award hasn't already been won), giving us our 9 to 1.
We must then decide which player we believe will accomplish this feat. Of the twelve players, we must chose one which of course gives us a 1 of 12 shot. Combine that with the 9 to 1 that we have already established and we can now calculate a rough figure. 12/1 x 9/1 gives us roughly a 108 to 1 shot. I'll take this wager at 100 to 1 for any S.B.P.T. member that wishes to lay a buck on the line.
Good luck everyone! Make me pay for my ignorance!
