What are the odds?

This Month’s query:

Well, the Sponge had made mention that he would be interested to know what his chances are of winning three straight. Obviously, his odds are 1 of however many show up this month, but let’s go back and look to see where-about they might have been.

When sponge won his first this year, he beat out six others for a 1 in 7 shot of winning. The following month (last month), he beat out 11 others for a 1 in 12 shot. We can’t yet determine how many will show this month but we will guess 12 total. Let’s see what we get!

If we had asked the question “what are the odds” two months ago and we expect 12 players total this month, we would have a calculation that looks like this: 1/7 x 1/12 x 1/12 = 1/1008.

There you have it, Sponge would have been a 1000 to 1 shot, and aside from betting on the Sponge this month, anyone who would like to take that wager can have it for the grand total of $.05

The way to place the wager is to say (for example), Scooter will win the next three straight and then she would have to do just that. And of course one can also bet on themselves!

Good luck everyone!
