What are the odds?
This Month’s query:
In light of Scooters fantastic run of second place finishes, what are the odds that she finishes second, two of the remaining three months of this year?
We will use an average of twelve players each month for this wager even though we have twenty or so players, due to average player attendance.
When figuring this wager, we have to understand that we are trying to find the odds for second place finishes, not second or better, so there is only to be a one of twelve chance each month.
The calculation should look like this: 1/12 x 1/12 = 1/144
This says that if we were looking for two second place finishes in two months, it would a 1 in 144 chance. But since it twice in three months, we have to multiply by 2/3’s or .6666666 of 144, to get a 1 in 96 shot!
I’ll take it at 90 t0 1 for a $.25 max for anybody interested.
