"What Are The Odds?"
This Months Query:
What are the odds that the Poker Tournament Software seats a starting table of all tournament champions?
Well first of all, I must consider the number of people that RSVP'ed (which is 14 at this point) and of course, how many of them are tournament champions (which is 7 at this point).
From here it is pretty easy to determine the line:
We know that we will have two tables of seven if we continue to have 14 people RSVP. So, for the computer to assign it's first player to a table, there will be a 7 of 14 chance that a tournament champion will be assigned, whichever table that player is assigned to ("table A" or "table B") determines where the other tournament champions must be assigned. So if the first tournament champion landed on "table A" then there is a 6 of 13 chance that the next T.C. (tournament champion) will land on "table A". Then of course a 5 of 12 chance for the next and so on down to a 1 of 8 shot for the last remaining seat on the T.C. table.
So the math will look something like this:
7 /14 x 6 /13 x 5 /12 x 4 /11 x 3 /10 x 2 /9 x 1 /8 = 5040 /17,297,280
That translates to 3432 to 1
I'll take this @ 3000 to 1
Jump all over this one!!!
Good luck everyone! Make me pay for my ignorance!
